Compliance and risk

KYT

Also called: Know your transaction, Transaction screening, Wallet screening

Screening the addresses that money comes from and goes to against risk data, such as sanctions, mixers and stolen funds, before acting on a transaction.

Know Your Transaction (KYT) is the crypto counterpart of transaction monitoring. Screening providers trace funds on-chain and score addresses by risk: links to sanctioned parties, darknet markets, mixers, scams or hacks. A business checks an address before paying it, and a sender before crediting a deposit.

A screening setup needs:

  • What to screen: payouts, deposits, or both.
  • A threshold: the risk level at which something is held.
  • A fallback: what happens when the provider doesn't answer.
  • A review process: someone who releases or rejects what's held, with a record.

KYT complements, but doesn't replace, knowing your customers (KYC) and your wider compliance program.

On Valtu

Connect your own Elliptic, Chainalysis, Blockaid or Webacy account; your key is sealed, and the results are yours under your contract with the provider. Payout destinations are screened before signing, and a payout at or above your threshold is held until your team releases or rejects it. Deposit senders are screened as deposits are recorded, and a held deposit is neither swept nor sent until it's decided. If the provider can't answer, the default is to freeze for review.
