Deposits and payouts

Payout

Also called: Withdrawal, Crypto payout

Sending coins from a business's wallet to someone else's address, such as a customer withdrawal, a seller payment or a contractor's pay.

A payout is money leaving your control, so every step matters: the amount and destination must be right, it must not go out twice, the right people must approve it, and it needs enough of the network's native coin for the fee.

The usual failure modes:

  • Paying twice after a timeout and a retry. Prevented with idempotency.
  • Paying the wrong address, for example after address poisoning. Prevented with saved addresses and approvals.
  • Getting stuck because of fees. Prevented with a gas wallet, or replace-by-fee on Bitcoin.

On Valtu

transfers.create takes the wallet, asset, amount, destination and your externalId. Your approval policies then allow it, require approvals, or deny it. Approved payouts move through QUEUED, SIGNING and BROADCAST to CONFIRMED, with a signed webhook at each step. One that can't be sent within 30 minutes, for example because the wallet is short of funds or gas, is cancelled before signing rather than going out hours later. The full path is in how a payout gets signed.
