Confirmations
Also called: Block confirmations, Confirmation depth
The number of blocks added on top of the block containing a transaction; the deeper it is, the less likely it can be undone.
When a transaction is included in a block, it has one confirmation. Each block built after it adds another. A transaction a few blocks deep can still disappear in a chain reorganization; one many blocks deep, in practice, can't.
How many confirmations are enough depends on the network: block times, how its consensus works and how often it has reorganized. Platforms pick a depth per network and credit deposits only once they reach it.
On Valtu
Default depths:
| Network | A deposit is final at |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | 12 blocks |
| BNB Chain | 15 blocks |
| Polygon | 64 blocks |
| Base | 12 blocks |
| Lisk | 12 blocks |
| Tron | the solidified block |
| Bitcoin | 3 blocks |
The values in force are what GET /v1/networks reports. Valtu also checks that each block links to the one before it, so a deposit whose block left the chain is never credited. Each network page shows its own depth.
