TRC-20

The token standard on Tron, modelled on ERC-20; USDT on Tron is a TRC-20 token and one of the most used stablecoins for everyday payments.

TRC-20 is Tron's equivalent of ERC-20: the same idea of a contract keeping balances, with the same kinds of functions. Its most important token by far is USDT, which carries a large share of everyday stablecoin payments because transfers are quick and cheap when handled well.

How TRC-20 differs in practice:

  • Addresses start with T, a different format from EVM's 0x.
  • Fees aren't a simple gas price. A transfer uses energy and bandwidth. Without energy, TRX is burned instead, which costs more.
  • Finality: Tron blocks become solidified once enough block producers have built on them.

On Valtu

Valtu reads only solidified Tron blocks, so a TRC-20 deposit is final when it's seen. Before each TRC-20 payout or sweep, Valtu estimates the energy needed and either rents it through your own energy provider key, when that's cheaper, or has your gas wallet send the TRX to burn. Coins: USDT on Tron and the rest on the Tron page.
