BEP-20

The name for ERC-20-style tokens on BNB Chain; same interface and address format as Ethereum, with fees paid in BNB.

BNB Chain is an EVM network, so its tokens follow the ERC-20 interface. They're usually called BEP-20 after BNB Chain's own proposal process. To an integration they behave like ERC-20 tokens, with fees paid in BNB.

Two things catch teams out:

  • Different contracts. USDT on BNB Chain is a separate token from USDT on Ethereum, with its own contract. Sending one to a system expecting the other doesn't work unless both are supported.
  • Different decimals. USDT and USDC on BNB Chain use 18 decimals, while on Ethereum they use 6. Amounts must be converted per network. See token decimals.

On Valtu

BNB Chain uses the same EVM address as Ethereum, Polygon, Base and Lisk, and deposits are credited once 15 blocks deep by default. Each coin, such as USDT on BNB Chain, lists its contract and decimals. A gas wallet can pay the BNB that token payouts and sweeps need.
